This Christmas we went skiing in Andorra. It’s a beautiful country and we were particularly lucky as we actually had snow in Andorra (we were experiencing particularly warm weather before Christmas) where France and Switzerland were sadly bereft of the white stuff necessary to make a successful skiing holiday!
Andorra oozes charm and beauty which more than makes up for it’s small land mass. The vistas are spectacular and I would recommend a visit at any time of the year.
We stayed in a lovely apartment in El Tarter. The complex has parking (I highly recommend staying somewhere with access to parking) and it was just a quick walk across the road to a chair lift and cable car. The apartments have a fireplace and as were arrived before Christmas, the staff had put trees, complete with decorations in the suits, which was a lovely touch.
Soldeu, the next town along the mountain road, also looked like a nice place to stay with quite a few restaurants, a pharmacy, shops and a small supermarket.
There is a local bus that runs up and down the main road every half an hour and is an easy way to travel between the towns.
Early morning is the best time to ski, when the slopes are less crowded and the base is freshly groomed. For something a little more challenging, where there are fewer people, try some black runs. A number of lift and ski hire packages are available which should suit everyone’s needs and time constraints.
For anyone interested, these are the details for the apartments we stayed in:
