Barbara de Simone, one of our fellow members, will introduce us to “Grandes Maestros del Arte Popular Mexicano”.
The House of Mexico in Spain and the National Bank of Mexico, through Fomento Cultura Banamex, A.C., present the exhibition Great Masters of Mexican Popular Art.
Banamex Cultural Development Collection, made up of the works of the Great Masters participating in the Popular Art Support Program and by invited artists who were carefully selected and gathered between 1996 and 2018.
These works show a wide selection that reflects the most representative specialties of Mexican popular art. A vast panorama is presented through nine artisan branches: clay, wood, stone, textiles, metals, paper, leather, fibers, vegetables and various materials, divided in turn into a huge range of specialties according to technique, region, finish and use.
The pieces exhibited at Casa de México in Spain cover 44 locations with a number of 77 popular artists and 126 ensembles .
Through the collection of Grand Masters presented here, it is sought to impact the beauty of the pieces, in addition to showing the varied creation that changes according to the regions, ethnic groups, materials or techniques.
In such a way that at the end of the tour you can have a closer idea of the multiplicity of interrelationships, as well as a recognition of the cultural plurality, geographical, ethnic and linguistic diversity that exists in Mexico.
At the end of our visit, we will gather at the cozy Museum Cafe to talk about the exhibition.
